The Satellite Radio listeners have two satellites to choose from one is the XM and the other is Sirius.
The XM is more popular as it was introduced one year before the Sirius There is many music channels to choose from you have different channels:

Decades: Which plays the music from the decades like the 40’s, 50’s 60’s.
Country: The classic or hit countries are played here frequently. The hits are also home to XM.
The hot channels like high voltage and Playboy are also a part of the XM satellite Radio. They have very good FM like KISS FM or KMIX. The MTV and VH1 are also aired. The two satellites Radios XM and Sirius have too much to compete about as they both have equal number of channels and equally good sound quality. Both have good music channels and both have news to a listener it is very difficult choice to make which Satellite radio to choose.

The satellite Radio has two operators in North America and they are XM and Sirius. Both have the same range and even though the XM had started one year earlier, they have market share of 50% each. The difficult choice for the listener is which to choose XM or Sirius.

Music: The music channels offered by both the operator are much the same as XM has 68 and Sirius has 65. The music on XM is based on the decades and you can listen to music of your liking from 40’s, 50’s, or even latest. The same service is not available in the Sirius. The Sirius runs all the hits and the latest together with a heady mix, which makes it very interesting. The quality and the amount of music played by XM are astounding and therefore they take a march over Sirius. The country music is regularly played and if you are a fan of country music, you have a choice between classic or hits, which is played only on Sirius.

Both the providers play rock and roll. The Music dance and Latin have three channels, which are dedicated channels for XM and Sirius. Both the channels offer good music from jazz to country to classical very regularly. Both are good and are value for money.
Both also offer news whereas Sirius offers 13 Channels and XM not far behind with eleven. The channels offer the news in different languages and give the news on the hour every hour.

The comparison shows that both of them are equally good and if a new listener wants to join will have tough time to decide. As it is the cost of both the satellite, Radio is almost the same.

The latest in technology is the satellite Radio. While traveling in the car for work or for pleasure we listen to our favorite Radio program but most signals travel only upto 30 or 40 miles from its source and you loose contact with the Radio. While passing by in different area you will get different channels on Radio.

However, with the advent of Satellite Radio its range has been increased up to about 35,000 km or 22000 miles with high quality and clear voice without breaking. In addition, you can have the choice of 100 channels. Imagine you are driving from one state to another without changing your favorite channel with minimum or no commercials.

The satellite Radio was introduced sometime in 1992 and since then it is in full swing. The United States Federal Communications commissions gave a spectrum of S band for digital Audio Radio Service. The license was give to Sirius Satellite Radio and XM Satellite Radio and World Space. Satellite Radio also known as Digital Radio gives very good quality music from space. 

All the three companies have different listeners as the Sirius Satellite Radio, XM are in North America, and the World Space caters to Asia, Europe and Africa. Each of the companies has different broadcasting systems as the radio signals are owned by each separately. The different receivers (Radios) need to be used for different services. The common factor is the satellite, ground repeaters and the receivers.

XM Satellite Radio uses geostationary satellites, which move long with the movement of the earth, and they are usually stationed above the equator. For clear signal, the companies install a network of ground antennas, which receive the signal and retransmit to the subscribers.

Sirius uses satellites that have unique elliptical orbits around Earth. These orbits allow satellites to be higher in the sky and reduces the signal loss due to big buildings or mountains.  This also requires less of antennas than that of XM. 

The music is in CD and digital format and the Radio Jockey can play their own choice or the listener’s choice at any given time. The services maintain broadcast studios where the artist can perform live. All the songs and other materials are transferred to the satellite in digital format and therefore the signal is of very high quality.

The radio receiver from one Satellite radio will not work in the other ones, as there is a very high technique, which cannot be decoded by the other radios. The receiver units are available at a very good prices which when compared to the quality it is very less. The main feature of the Satellite Radio is that most of the channels are commercial free.
